By Muhammad Naziru Muhammad

Anger, and grief swept through Rivers State University (RSU) on Wednesday after a female student identified simply as Eno was allegedly killed by a speeding vehicle in a convoy inside the institution’s campus.

The student, described by witnesses as a young woman in her early 20s, was reportedly walking along Road A when she was struck and flung onto the pavement.

Late Eno sustained severe head injuries and died at the scene, leaving fellow students and staff in shock. The victim’s body was subsequently evacuated to a mortuary.

The tragic incident sparked outrage across the campus, with reports that some vehicles in the convoy sped away after the crash.

In a swift response, the university authorities sealed the campus exits while security personnel and police operatives moved to track down those involved.

Police later arrested two suspects, identified as Onunaka K. and Daniel Ikechi, drivers of a Toyota Camry Spider and a Mercedes-Benz E300 respectively, for questioning over the incident.

Confirming the development, spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Grace Iringe-Koko, said two suspects were in custody and investigations had commenced.

“Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, while the corpse has been retrieved and deposited in the mortuary,” she said.

The university’s spokesperson, Victor Banigo, said management would issue an official statement on the tragedy, which has reignited concerns over reckless driving and safety within the campus.
