By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO — Efforts by the Kano State Government to improve healthcare services received a fresh boost as the Kano State Hospitals Management Board (HMB) inaugurated two high-powered management teams to oversee secondary healthcare facilities across the state.

The Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, approved the constitution of the teams as part of ongoing reforms championed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf aimed at strengthening quality healthcare delivery and enhancing accountability in public hospitals.

A statement issued by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Samira Suleiman, the teams will undertake regular monitoring, evaluation and supportive supervision of all secondary healthcare facilities under the Board.

The statement said the initiative is designed to “reinforce accountability, promote excellence in service delivery, ensure adherence to professional standards, and accelerate the ongoing transformation of healthcare institutions across the state.”

Under the arrangement, Team A will be chaired by Dr. Nagoda and comprise top management officials and representatives of professional health associations. Team B will be headed by the Director of Medical Services and include representatives of nurses, pharmacists, medical practitioners and other healthcare stakeholders.

The supervisory teams are expected to assess the quality and efficiency of healthcare services, monitor staff attendance and discipline, evaluate medical equipment and infrastructure, and ensure the availability and proper use of essential drugs and laboratory consumables.

They will also identify operational challenges, engage healthcare workers on ways to improve patient-centred care, monitor cleanliness in general hospitals, and submit reports containing actionable recommendations after each visit.

Speaking on the development, Dr. Nagoda said the formation of the teams reflects the Board’s determination to institutionalise a culture of continuous quality improvement and responsive healthcare management.

“Effective supervision remains one of the strongest pillars for achieving excellence in healthcare delivery,” he said, assuring residents that the Board would continue to deploy every available mechanism to ensure government investments in the health sector translate into improved services for all citizens.

The Board reiterated its commitment to supporting Governor Yusuf’s vision of building a resilient, accessible and efficient healthcare system capable of meeting the aspirations of the people of Kano State.
