Battle for Shekarau Intensifies as YPP Makes Move in Kano

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO —– The battle for the political allegiance of former Kano State Governor, Senator Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has intensified as the Young Progressives Party (YPP) formally reached out to him, urging him to join its fold.

The development comes amid increasing political realignments in Kano, just days after the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) also visited Shekarau to seek his return.

Malam Ibrahim Shekarau served as governor of Kano State from 2003 to 2011 and later elected as a senator to the red chamber representing Kano Central.

A statement issued by a close associate of the former governor, Munir A. Sadi that was made available to newsmen in Kano, explained that a delegation of YPP leaders in Kano paid a visit to Shekarau at his residence in Mundubawa, Kano.

According to the statement, the delegation was led by Hon. Yakubu Uba Mohammad, who conveyed the party’s interest in having Shekarau join its ranks, describing him as a political figure whose experience and influence could strengthen the party in the state.

“We visited Malam Ibrahim Shekarau to formally invite him to join the YPP and contribute to building the party in Kano,” the statement quoted a member of the delegation as saying.

In his response, Shekarau expressed appreciation for the visit and the confidence reposed in him, noting that the YPP had now joined the list of political parties seeking his attention.

“I thank you for the visit and the show of respect. You have now joined other parties that are consulting and engaging us,” Shekarau was quoted as saying.

The statement further revealed that some key members of Shekarau’s
Shura Council were present at the meeting, an indication of ongoing consultations surrounding the former governor’s next political move.
