Sunday Reflections: Kano’s Grand Welcome and the Rising Case for Garo
By Binta Spikin
It is another Sunday, and I feel as lazy as hell, even though, for the most part, I take care of me on Sundays (hair, nails, wardrobe, everything).
However, today is different. I am still basking in the euphoria of yesterday’s outing, when the whole of Kano, in all its glory, came out, to welcome back, the People’s Governor. It was an amazing sight, it gives the much needed confidence to all Party Stalwarts that we are indeed on track.
It is shameful However, that some disgruntled elements chose the occasion for a smear campaign against His Excellency Murtala Sule Garo, hoping that their “little show of opposition from within” could block his chances of becoming the Deputy Governor. What they don’t know is that the benefits to be drived by a Garo Deputy Governorship by far outweighs the disadvantages. Here are three solid ones:
1- HE Murtala Sule Garo is a grassroot politician whose influence runs across party lines. If he deputizes Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf, the original game plan conceived still stands. Which means His Excellency AKY will continue to focus on governance and service delivery, while HE Garo will take care of the politics and politicking on his behalf. In addition, he would do that with respect to the Governor and all other stakeholders. It will be a smooth ride.
2- All the grumblings and side talks from within the old APC fold will die down. Simply put, with HE Garo as deputy Governor, all from that side will be given a sense of belonging. He represents everybody and had been there, been a pillar to almost everyone at different points in time, from the old APC bloc.
3- He is well grounded and have a massive followership. When you add that to the Governor’s support base, I think it is a strong recipe for success during the 2027 polls.
There are other reasons, I am sure others could contribute on that.
May HE Garo succeed. May Allah put him above all his detractors. May APC Kano succeed.
Happy Weekend everyone.
