Lawyer Writes Hisbah Boss Over Complaints of Unfair Rice Allocation

KANO —– A human rights lawyer, Barrister Musa Abubakar Tudunwada, has written to the Commander General of the Hisbah Board, seeking clarification over alleged irregularities in the distribution of bags of rice donated to the agency for Ramadan welfare.
Barrister Musa Abubakar Tudunwada in a statement that was made available to newsmen in Kano said the decision followed complaints from some personnel of the board who alleged that the rice provided by the Kano State Government was not shared fairly among staff members.
The Lawyer explained “We will formally write to Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa to request a detailed explanation of how the rice provided by the government was distributed within the Hisbah Board”.
Tudunwada explained that the purpose of the letter is to obtain an official account of the process and determine whether any irregularities occurred.
“The purpose of the letter is to obtain an official account of the distribution process and identify where any irregularities may have occurred,” he stated.
The lawyer warned that failure by the leadership of the Hisbah Board to provide a satisfactory explanation could lead to further action.
“If our request is not addressed or if the board fails to provide a transparent explanation of the distribution process, we will have no option but to file a petition before the to seek justice for affected staff members,” he added.
Tudunwada also stressed that allegations of unfairness should not arise within an institution tasked with upholding moral standards.
“Allegations of unfairness or lack of transparency should not occur within an institution responsible for promoting moral discipline and justice in society,” he said.
Meanwhile, a source familiar with the matter disclosed that the administration reportedly allocated about 900 bags of rice to the Hisbah Board as part of its Ramadan welfare support for government agencies.
According to the source, “the Commander General, the Chairman of the board and the Deputy Directors General allegedly received 20 bags each, while Assistant Directors General were said to have received 18 bags each,”
it further alleged that directors and assistant commanders reportedly received one bag each, while every local government headquarters of the board was allocated five bags.
