BUK Grieves as Postgraduate Student Passes Away

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO  –  Bayero University Kano (BUK) has been thrown into mourning following the death of one of its postgraduate students, Hassana Isah, of the Department of Human Physiology.

In an official announcement, the Department of Human Physiology disclosed that Hassana Isah was an MSc student who had successfully completed all aspects of her academic programme and was awaiting her final viva voce examination before her untimely death.

“She was an exemplary student who fulfilled all academic requirements of her programme,” the department stated, noting that her passing came at a time when she was preparing to conclude her postgraduate studies.

Hassana reportedly passed away on 14 January 2026 following a surgical procedure. The news of her death was received with shock and sadness by fellow students and academic staff who had closely followed her academic progress.

Reacting to the loss, the Head of the Department, Dr. Musa Ibrahim Kurawa, described the deceased as “a disciplined, dedicated, and humble individual who remained focused and committed to her academic pursuits throughout her stay in the department.”

According to Dr. Kurawa, Hassana’s conduct and commitment distinguished her among her peers. “She carried herself with humility and seriousness, earning the respect of both staff and fellow students,” he added.

The university, through the department, extended its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late postgraduate student. “The entire BUK community shares in this painful loss,” the statement said.
