NNPP Crisis: Court Bars Kwankwaso Ally Dungurawa From Party Interference

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

A Kano State High Court has affirmed the appointment of Hon. Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya as the Acting State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State.

The court also upheld the suspension of the former State Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, and restrained him from interfering in the affairs of the party pending the determination of the substantive suit.

In addition, the court fixed January 19 for the hearing of the case instituted by the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Executive Committee of the NNPP against Dungurawa.

The ruling followed an application filed before the court challenging Dungurawa’s continued claim to the chairmanship after his suspension by the party’s State Executive Committee.

Hashimu Sulaiman Dungurawa is reportedly aligned with the party’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Meanwhile, the Kano State Executive Committee of the NNPP, during an emergency meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Kano, confirmed the appointment of Abiya as Acting State Chairman.

The committee stated that the decision followed the removal of Dungurawa from office.

The court ordered all parties to maintain the status quo and directed that Dungurawa should refrain from parading himself as chairman or taking any action capable of disrupting the party’s activities in the state pending the hearing and determination of the suit.
