Yusuf Says N50,000 Empowerment Scheme Boosts Kano Local Economy

KANO — Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has said that the N50,000 monthly Empowerment and Poverty Relief Programme introduced by his administration is strategically designed to enable beneficiaries to contribute meaningfully to the local economy.
The Governor made the statement on Wednesday while presiding over the disbursement of start-up capital to beneficiaries explained that the poverty alleviation initiative is a direct fulfillment of his administration’s campaign promises to the people of Kano State.
He disclosed that the government has designated 2026 as a year of intensive empowerment for men, women, and youths as part of deliberate efforts to reduce poverty and improve livelihoods across the state.
According to the Governor, the programme has been consistently implemented since he assumed office, with thousands of women already benefiting and recording significant improvements in their standard of living.
Governor Yusuf revealed that he received reports of a beneficiary who prudently invested her initial N50,000 grant into a business venture and grew her capital to over N1.2 million within two years.
He urged the newly selected beneficiaries to make wise use of the funds to support their families and contribute positively to their communities.
The Governor also commended the Kano State House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, as well as the chairmen of the 44 local government councils, for their legislative support and timely release of funds for the programme.
In his remarks, Speaker Falgore said the scale of infrastructural development and poverty alleviation programmes being executed by the Yusuf administration is evident across the state. He added that even critics of the administration have acknowledged the Governor’s visible and positive transformation of Kano State.
Earlier, speaking on behalf of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), the Vice Chairperson and Chairman of Danbatta Local Government Council, Alhaji Jamilu Abubakar Dambatta, who represented the ALGON Chairperson, Hajiya Sa’adatu Yushau Soja, commended Governor Yusuf for his inclusive leadership style.
He particularly praised the administration’s initiatives aimed at empowering citizens to become more productive, self-reliant, and economically stable.
