By the Newsroom
KANO  –  Residents of Darmanawa quarters in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State woke up to a scene of unimaginable horror on Thursday morning after the remains of a newborn baby were discovered beneath a culvert in the neighbourhood.
Finenewsng.com reports that the grim sight sent shockwaves through the community, leaving many residents visibly shaken and struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
According to a report shared on the Facebook page of a popular Kano-based radio station, the abandoned baby was confirmed to be a female.
The infant was allegedly dumped by an unknown person, under circumstances that have sparked outrage, sorrow and deep concern among locals.
An eyewitness, Nura Danbala, told the radio station that residents believe the act was carried out in the early hours of Thursday, when the area was still quiet.
As news of the discovery spread, residents gathered at the scene, many expressing anger and heartbreak over what they described as a cruel and inhuman act.
Some questioned how anyone could abandon a helpless newborn, while others called for greater community vigilance and support systems to prevent such incidents.
Sympathisers, including community leaders and residents, were seen making arrangements to ensure the baby is given a proper and dignified burial.
As at the time of filing this report, the Kano State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
