KANO – Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has defended her plan to distribute vehicles and other community assets in Kogi Central, unveiling a new structure aimed at ensuring transparency and preventing misuse.
Speaking at a recent town hall meeting with constituents, the senator addressed concerns surrounding past distributions in which vehicles given to individuals were reportedly resold. She explained that a new approach has been adopted to safeguard public resources and ensure that projects serve the collective interest of the district.
Under the new arrangement, a People’s Development Trust will be established to manage the vehicles and other community projects. Rather than allocating assets to individuals, the trust will hold and administer them on behalf of the people.
“We are creating a people’s company, a development trust. These vehicles, alongside the hospital built with donor funds and market contributions, will all become properties managed for the people,” she said.
The senator disclosed that the process of registering the trust is nearing completion, noting that initial name submissions to the Corporate Affairs Commission were declined. Approval of the final name is expected soon, after which vehicle registration will proceed.
To strengthen accountability, she revealed that tracking devices will be installed in the vehicles. In addition, the manufacturing company will provide training for drivers, electricians and mechanics to ensure proper maintenance and long-term sustainability of the assets.
Describing the initiative as a structured and transparent system, Senator Natasha assured constituents that the new model prioritises collective ownership and responsible management. She set a mid-February target for the vehicles to begin circulating within the district.
The senator reaffirmed her commitment to delivering on her promises, stating that credibility and due process remain central to her approach to community development in Kogi Central.
