Sen. Kawu Apologizes to APC Members Over Rice Distribution Mix-Up

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO —– Kano South Senator, Suleiman Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, on Tuesday apologized to members of the APC in Albasu following confusion over the distribution of rice to local communities.

The apology came after allegations surfaced that some members of the APC in Albasu had received fewer bags of rice than were allocated to them.

A video circulated online showed the representatives returning the rice, claiming they had been given only five bags instead of the expected allocation.

The video that sparked the controversy showed representatives saying, “Senator Kawu Sumaila, here is your rice. We returned it to you. Your rice is with your representative. Thank you! Thank you!”

A statement released by Abbas Adam Abbas on behalf of his principal, explained that the senator had set aside 500 bags of rice for each Local Government Area in Kano State for public distribution.

The statement further clarified that 100 bags were allocated to the Kwankwasiyya faction of the Kano State Government APC, and another 100 bags were set aside for the former APC party in each Local Government Area.

“There is full confirmation that the 100 bags allocated to the Kano State Government APC members in Albasu were delivered and properly distributed,” the statement said.

The senator’s office described the mix-up as a misunderstanding.

“Senator Kawu Sumaila has extended his apologies to members of the APC in Albasu for the confusion that arose during the distribution of rice,” Abbas said.

The statement also contained a stern warning against tampering with public resources. “Anyone found misappropriating public property or interfering with the distribution process will face legal action,” it added.

Senator Sumaila’s office emphasized that the measure is not limited to Albasu. “Any Local Government Area found in similar circumstances will also be subject to the law. Our priority is transparency and ensuring that aid reaches the intended beneficiaries,” Abbas concluded.
