Prominent Kano Figure Shekarau Passes Away

KANO — Prominent Kano figure and retired Permanent Secretary, Malam Dahiru Shekarau, has passed away.
His death was formally announced on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, drawing condolences from family members, associates, and members of the wider Kano community.
Malam Dahiru, who was the senior brother of former Kano State Governor and Senator, Ibrahim Shekarau death marks the loss of a respected elder statesman known for his years of service in the state’s public sector.
During his career, the late Shekarau served as a Permanent Secretary, a position regarded as one of the highest ranks in the state civil service.
He was widely recognized for his administrative experience and contributions to governance in Kano State.
Prof. Sule Ya’u Sule, the former Chief Press Secretary to Ibrahim Shekarau, in a terse statement confirmed that his Janaza (funeral prayer) is scheduled to take place on Wednesday at the Giginyu Jumu’a Mosque in Kano by 10:00 a.m.
The announcement of his death has elicited prayers and expressions of sympathy, particularly from political and government circles, given his family’s longstanding involvement in public service.
