Police Arrest Man for Peddling Drugs in Kano University

KANO — Police authorities in Kano, on Saturday said they have arrested a young man on suspicion of selling illegal drugs inside a University campus.
Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, a Chief Superintendent of Police, on his verified Facebook page dropped the announcement.
In his post, Kiyawa stated in Hausa: “An kama wannan matashi da zargin kutse cikin Jami’a da sayar da kayan maye.” This translates to: “This young man (in picture) was arrested on suspicion of trespassing into the university and selling illicit drugs.”
The police did not specify which university in Kano was involved, leaving residents to speculate.
Kano is home to several higher institutions, including Bayero University Kano, Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, and Northwest University Kano.
Kiyawa provided no additional details on how the suspect allegedly accessed the campus or whether he is a student.
“The suspect was arrested on suspicion of trespassing into a university and selling illegal drugs,” Kiyawa said, without further elaboration.
Of late authorities in Kano have intensified efforts to curb drug-related activities around schools in recent months.
