KANO —- The Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), on Monday adopted the report of its Ethics and Disciplinary Committee which indicted its Secretary, Abubakar Shehu Kwaru, over alleged administrative and financial breaches.

The decision was reached during the third congress meeting of the Council held on Monday at the NUJ Press Centre, Kano, where representatives of various media chapels were in attendance.

According to the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the disciplinary panel found Kwaru culpable of infractions relating to administrative conduct and financial management within the Council’s secretariat.

“The Congress unanimously adopted the report of the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee which established cases of administrative and financial misconduct against the Secretary,” the communiqué stated.

Chairman of the Council, Comrade Suleiman Abdullahi Dederi, while addressing members, said the Union remained committed to transparency, accountability, and internal discipline in order to strengthen institutional credibility.

He noted that the decision was not taken lightly, stressing that due process was followed in line with the Union’s constitution and ethical standards guiding professional conduct.

“The NUJ cannot afford to compromise on integrity. Every officer entrusted with responsibility must be accountable to members and to the principles of the Union,” Dederi was quoted as saying during the congress deliberation.

The congress further reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing ethical standards across all levels of the Union, warning that acts capable of undermining trust and professionalism would not be tolerated.
