NDLEA Launches Special Ramadan Operation, Arrests 17, Seizes Meth, Cannabis in Kano

The (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has launched a special enforcement drive tagged “Operation Ramadan Mubarak,” resulting in the arrest of 17 suspects and the seizure of methamphetamine, cannabis and other illicit substances across the state.
The operation, carried out ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, targeted identified drug hotspots in Kano metropolis. Areas raided include Race Course, Dan’agundi, Filin Mahaha, the , Farm Center by Zaria Road and Tashar Rami Na’ibawa.
Briefing Reporter weekend, the Commander of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, CN DY Lawal, said the raids were intelligence-led and strategically executed to dismantle drug networks operating within the state. He noted that the initiative was aimed at ensuring a safe and drug-free environment during Ramadan.
“This special operation is part of our proactive measures to guarantee a peaceful and secure Ramadan for residents of Kano State,” Lawal said. “We have intensified surveillance and enforcement across identified hotspots, and we will sustain the momentum throughout the fasting period.”
Items recovered during the coordinated raids include Ice (methamphetamine), cannabis sativa, Exol-5, diazepam and rubber solution, substances the agency described as commonly abused by youths. Lawal said the seizures underscore the Command’s resolve to curb the distribution and abuse of narcotics in the state.
He explained that the operation aligns with the directive of the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), who has called for intensified nationwide action against drug trafficking and abuse. According to him, the Kano Command remains committed to supporting the national objective of promoting a drug-free society.
Lawal assured residents that the 17 suspects arrested would be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law. “We will not relent in our efforts to dismantle drug syndicates and bring perpetrators to justice,” he stated.
The agency also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could aid ongoing operations. “Community support is critical to winning the fight against illicit drugs,” Lawal added, urging citizens to partner with the NDLEA to rid Kano State of the menace.
