Man Contacts Kano Police to Ask If He’s on Drug Barons’ List
By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul
KANO —— An unidentified man has reportedly called the Kano State Police Command to inquire whether his name appeared on a confidential list of suspected drug dealers compiled through public tip-offs.
The unusual development was disclosed by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a post shared on his official Facebook page.
Expressing surprise at the incident, Kiyawa wrote, “What boldness! Someone called me on the phone asking whether his name was among the drug dealers being reported.”
The spokesperson, however, did not confirm whether the caller’s name was actually on the list or whether he is currently under investigation for alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
The incident comes amid an ongoing crackdown on illicit drug activities in Kano State, where police have adopted a community-driven intelligence approach to identify suspected traffickers and dealers.
Kiyawa had earlier urged residents to confidentially submit the names of individuals suspected of selling or distributing illicit substances within their neighborhoods.
According to him, the initiative is aimed at curbing drug abuse, trafficking, and related crimes across the state.
Police authorities say the strategy has already yielded results, leading to the arrest of several suspects in different parts of Kano.
The identity and motive of the caller as at press time remain unclear.
However finenewsng.com learned that the development has further reinforced growing anxiety surrounding the police’s intensified campaign against drug-related offenses in Kano state.
