KANO   – It was a bitter loss for Kano’s political strongman, Senator Rabiu Musa kwankwaso as longtime political ally, Engr Sagir Ibrahim Koki, Member Representing Kano Municipal in the House of Representatives resigned his membership of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Sagir Ibrahim Koki was a businessman, contractor before Kwankwaso personally persuaded him to run for the Kano Municipal seat under the NNPP in 2023.
To-date, the Kwankwaso led faction of NNPP  had lost a Senator, Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila and high profile House of Representatives Member to the ruling All Progressives Congress at the centre.
Koki in a letter of resignation addressed to the Ward Chairperson, Zaitawa Ward, Kano Municipal, said, “By virtue of the right conferred upon me by Section 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), Article 7.1 of the NNPP Constitution and all other relevant extant laws.”
The Federal lawmaker said  “I, HON. ENGR. SAGIR IBRAHIM KOKI do hereby resign my membership of the NNPP effective from Tuesday, the 11th Day of November, 2025. “
He explained that “My decision to exit the NNPP becomes necessary because the internal crisis in the party leadership at the centre has made it difficult, if not impossible, for me to continue discharging my duties and provide my people”.
Koki stressed that, “the good people of Kano Municipal, with the desired representation in the House of Representatives. thank the party most sincerely for the opportunity accorded me to serve under its platform.”
Sagir Koki however stated that “The support, trust and experience I have gained during my reign as a member have been invaluable, and I remain deeply grateful to the leadership and members of the party af all levels.”
As at the time of going to the press, no words from Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s camp, nor Hashimu Sulaiman Dungurawa, the state Chairman of the Party in Kano over the development.
