KANO (Kano,North West Nigeria) – A frontline Islamic cleric from the Kogi Central senatorial district, Mohammed Dauda Adano, has written an open letter to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, advising her to consider tendering an apology as requested by the Senate Committee.
The letter, which has been made public, comes after Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s bravery in speaking out against alleged sexual harassment by the Senate President sparked intense debate and severe consequences.
According to Adano, while only God knows the truth, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s actions have undoubtedly shifted the dynamics, and it’s crucial to consider a strategic approach moving forward.
Adano cited Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War,” emphasizing the importance of choosing the right battles, especially in the high-stakes world of politics.
“In this case, tendering an apology as requested by the Committee might be the most effective way forward,” Adano wrote. “By doing so, you may be able to continue serving your constituents and working collaboratively with your peers in the Senate chamber.”
Adano highlighted the invaluable presence of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan in the Senate, particularly for the Kogi Central senatorial district. “As a fierce advocate, you’ve consistently demonstrated unwavering determination and earned victories in numerous battles.”
However, Adano urged Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to recognize when to apologize and move forward, which might be the most strategic decision in this instance.
The Senate Committee has explicitly stated that submitting a written apology may lead to the Senate reconsidering or lifting Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension.
Adano emphasized that considering an apology is not a sign of weakness but rather a strategic move to continue serving the district effectively.
The letter has sparked mixed reactions, with some supporting Adano’s view and others urging Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to stand firm in her convictions.
