KANO — The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has reconnected Lee Group, one of Northern Nigeria’s leading manufacturing conglomerates, to the national grid after more than 30 years of operating off-grid.

Industry stakeholders believe the development could serve as a catalyst for increased industrial activity, with reliable electricity expected to enhance production capacity and contribute to job creation in the region.

The development was announced by KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, Sani Bala Sani in a terse message he shared with newsmen in Kano.

He disclosed that the company had commissioned a dedicated 6-megawatt power feeder to provide reliable electricity supply to the industrial giant.

According to Sani, the project was executed under the strategic vision of Future Energies Africa (FEA) and represents the first phase of a broader industrial power enhancement programme aimed at supporting manufacturing activities across Northern Nigeria.

“A major milestone for industrial growth in Northern Nigeria has been achieved as KEDCO commissioned a dedicated 6MW power feeder to Lee Group, reconnecting the manufacturing giant to the national grid after more than 30 years of operating off-grid,” he said.

He described the initiative as a landmark project that demonstrates KEDCO’s commitment to delivering reliable electricity to industries and strengthening the region’s economic base.

Sani noted that access to stable power supply would help boost local manufacturing, reduce operational costs associated with self-generation, and improve productivity within the industrial sector.

“This landmark project, the first phase of a broader industrial power enhancement programme, demonstrates KEDCO’s commitment to delivering reliable electricity, supporting local manufacturing, creating jobs, and driving sustainable economic development across the region,” he stated.

The KEDCO spokesman further explained that the reconnection of Lee Group to the national grid underscores the company’s determination to provide energy solutions that promote industrial expansion and attract investment to Northern Nigeria.

Sani stressed that “The project forms part of ongoing efforts by KEDCO and Future Energies Africa to strengthen power infrastructure and support economic growth through improved energy access for businesses and industries.”
