KANO –  The Kano State Government has approved automatic employment for qualified Kano-indigene medical doctors currently working in neighbouring states, as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.
The initiative is aimed at encouraging doctors to return home and serve in Kano’s secondary health facilities.
The approval was conveyed by the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, who directed that all eligible doctors be absorbed without delay.
A statement by the Executive Secretary of the Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda explained that the policy targets medical professionals who left the state in search of better working conditions and career prospects elsewhere.
Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, said that as part of the incentives, the state government has fully implemented the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) in line with the Federal Government standard.
He stressed that this policy ensures pay parity with counterparts at the federal level and in other states offering competitive remuneration.
The Executive Secretary of the Hospitals Management Board, said ‘In addition, the government has guaranteed continuity on the same grade level attained by doctors with their previous employers.’
He maintained “This provision is intended to protect career progression and remove concerns about loss of status for doctors willing to return to Kano.
According to the statement, Further incentives include access to the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), providing financial support for doctors undergoing specialist training. The state will also offer in-house residency training opportunities to reduce the need for doctors to leave the state to advance their careers.”
According to the announcement, residency training will initially be available in key specialties, including Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), as well as Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Authorities noted that additional specialties and incentives would be introduced in phases.
Eligible doctors have been invited to report immediately to the Kano State Hospitals Management Board Headquarters for documentation and formal absorption. Officials described the process as straightforward, assuring applicants of a smooth transition into the state health system.
The announcement was signed by the Executive Secretary of the Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, who said the initiative reflects the current administration’s commitment to improving healthcare services and addressing manpower shortages in public hospitals across Kano State.
