KANO —- The Kano State Government has announced a partnership with a Chinese engineering firm, CGC, to overhaul its water supply system and address persistent shortages across the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf disclosed this on Tuesday during an inspection of key water treatment facilities, as part of efforts to assess challenges affecting water distribution.
The governor said the collaboration would focus on conducting feasibility studies and delivering lasting solutions to improve access to clean and safe drinking water for residents.
“This partnership is aimed at finding practical and sustainable solutions to the water supply challenges facing our state,” Yusuf said.
A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mustapha Muhammad, noted that the inspection covered major treatment plants, including the Tamburawa facility.
According to the statement, the governor and his team identified several operational issues, including leakages in pipelines, malfunctioning machinery, and obsolete equipment hindering optimal performance.
Yusuf assured that his administration would rehabilitate damaged infrastructure and upgrade outdated systems to boost efficiency in water supply.
“We are committed to ensuring that every citizen has access to safe and adequate water. No effort will be spared in achieving this goal,” the governor added.
He further emphasized that the partnership with CGC forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen public health outcomes and ensure sustainable water access across Kano State.
