Kano Govt Cracks Down on Alleged Negligence at Hospital, Suspends 3 Personnel

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul
KANO  –  The Kano State Government has cracked down on alleged negligence in a state-owned health facility, suspending three personnel over an incident that led to the death of a patient, Aishatu Umar, at the Abubakar Imam Urology Center.

A press statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board, Mrs Samira Suleiman, said the sweeping action underscores the state government’s resolve to uphold accountability and professionalism in the health sector.
The statement further affirmed that the crack down tallies with  “preliminary and transparent investigation” ordered by the Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda.
According to the statement, “the Board has established that the unfortunate incident involving the late Aishatu Umar did occur at the Abubakar Imam Urology Center,” putting to rest speculations surrounding the circumstances of the case.
Mrs Suleiman stated that as part of immediate corrective measures, the state government, through the Board, announced the suspension of personnel directly involved.
The statement stressed  “In line with its commitment to accountability, professionalism, and patient safety, the Board has outrightly suspended three (3) personnel directly involved in the case from clinical activities with immediate effect,” the statement said.
The Board added that the disciplinary action was not limited to suspension, noting that the matter has been escalated for further scrutiny.
“Furthermore, the matter has been formally referred to the Kano State Medical Ethical Committee for further investigation and appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with existing laws, professional guidelines, and ethical standards,” it stated.
The Kano State Government also expressed sympathy to the bereaved family, acknowledging the gravity of the loss. “The Kano State Hospitals Management Board extends its deepest condolences to the family of the late Aishatu Umar and sympathizes with them over this painful loss,” the statement read.
Reassuring residents of its stance against negligence, the Board said the government would not compromise on patient welfare.
“The Board reassures the public that it will not condone negligence in any form and will continue to take decisive actions to safeguard the lives, dignity, and trust of patients across all state health facilities,” it added.
The statement further emphasized that measures are being put in place to prevent similar incidents. “The Management Board remains resolute in strengthening internal monitoring, enforcing professional standards, and ensuring that such incidents are prevented in the future,” it said.
