KANO — Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, the member representing Dawakin Tofa, Tofa, and Rimingado in the House of Representatives escaped a hostile crowd while visiting his constituency in Tofa town over the weekend.
Reports from Tofa town said, Jobe, a ranking member of the Green Chamber was delivering a public address when a group of constituents began shouting angrily, accusing him of ignoring their concerns.
Eyewitnesses said one person reportedly shouted, “there is a problem; we, the hunters, are being ignored,” prompting the lawmaker to sarcastically respond, “Then come and explain yourself.”
Videos captured by local residents and shared on social media show the crowd attempting to forcibly move the lawmaker into a waiting vehicle, creating a tense and chaotic scene.
Witnesses said the situation was narrowly contained and did not escalate into physical violence.
Earlier this month, Hon. Jobe had appealed for forgiveness from constituents during a party stakeholders’ meeting, which reportedly ended in tension and near-violence, indicating that discontent within his base has been building for some time.
The lawmaker’s constituency has been under pressure, especially as some senior party figures have not actively supported him in local contests, leaving him vulnerable to grassroots backlash.
Security sources confirmed that authorities were present during the visit but emphasized that swift action was taken to ensure the lawmaker’s safety and prevent further escalation.
