KANO — Former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, on Friday called for stronger security measures to protect residents of Kano border communities following recent bandits attacks.

The latest attacks affected Yankamaye community in Tsanyawa LGA and Lakwaya community in Gwarzo LGA, where two persons were reportedly killed and several others injured during Thursday’s invasion by suspected bandits.

In a statement issued on Friday through his spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, Gwarzo described the incidents as tragic and disturbing, warning that the worsening security situation in rural communities should not be ignored.

“The situation is troubling and calls for prayer. I call on the state and federal governments, as well as relevant security agencies, to intensify efforts to address the security challenges facing our communities,” Gwarzo stated.

He said the recurring attacks were capable of undermining peace and stability in affected areas, stressing the need for urgent intervention to prevent further violence.

According to the former deputy governor, the latest attacks came barely one week after an earlier assault on Yankamaye community, a development he said reflects growing insecurity in parts of the state.

Gwarzo extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during the attacks and prayed for the repose of their souls.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible information on suspicious movements and activities within their communities.

The former deputy governor further appealed to authorities to strengthen surveillance and deploy proactive measures aimed at restoring confidence among residents living in vulnerable areas of Kano State.
