Ganduje’s Son Makes U-Turn, Dumps Kwankwaso’s NDC for APC

KANO — Abdulaziz Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, eldest son of former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has dumped the NDC for the APC, in a fresh political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abdulaziz announced his return to the APC on Sunday in Ganduje, his hometown in Kano State, several months after joining the NDC and declaring his intention to contest the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
During an elaborate ceremony, Abdulaziz, dressed in a cream-coloured kaftan and matching red cap, was seen in photographs with APC supporters as he received what appeared to be an APC membership or registration form.
His return to the APC marks a significant political U-turn, coming after he reportedly failed to secure the NDC ticket under the leadership of former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Although none of his immediate family members was seen alongside him during the ceremony, the development is likely to attract attention given his father’s long-standing association with the APC.
Abdullahi Ganduje, a former Governor of Kano State, previously served as National Chairman of the APC and remains a prominent figure within the party.
Abdulaziz’s brief stint in the NDC had attracted considerable attention, particularly because he chose to pursue an elective position under a platform associated with Kwankwaso, a long-standing political rival of his father.
His latest move therefore represents a notable shift in his political trajectory and could have implications for the emerging political alignments in Kano ahead of the 2027 elections.
The defection comes as political parties in the state intensify efforts to strengthen their structures, attract influential figures and consolidate support across constituencies ahead of what is expected to be a fiercely contested electoral cycle.
