FUD Set to Admit Law Students Next Session — VC

KANO – The Federal University Dutse (FUD) on Saturday announced plans to commence admission into its Faculty of Law in the next academic session.
The outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed, who made the disclosure during the university’s matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session, explained however that the proposed plan is subject to successful resource verification visits and approval by relevant regulatory bodies
Professor Abdulkarim revealed that the university has completed the construction of the Faculty of Law complex, marking a major milestone in FUD’s academic expansion.
He expressed optimism that the necessary approvals would be secured in time to admit the first set of Law students in the coming session.
The Vice-Chancellor described the planned introduction of the Law programme as part of efforts to broaden academic offerings and strengthen the university’s contribution to national development.
A total of 3,964 students were matriculated during the ceremony, formally ending the 2025/2026 admission exercise.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the university received 9,611 applications for admission, out of which 4,558 candidates were offered admission, while 3,964 eventually registered and were eligible for matriculation.
Prof. Abdulkarim noted that the National Universities Commission (NUC) admission quota for the university stands at 5,583, explaining that the figures reflect the competitive nature of the admission process.
Prof. Abdulkarim reminded the matriculating students that by taking the matriculation oath, they had entered into a contractual agreement with the university, which comes with rights, privileges, and obligations.
The Vice-Chancellor warned students against social vices such as examination malpractice, cultism, drug abuse, fighting, and stealing, stressing that the university would not tolerate acts capable of undermining academic standards and peaceful coexistence on campus.
He advised students to channel their grievances through appropriate authorities such as the Students’ Union Government or the Dean of Students’ Affairs, noting that the institution frowns at self-help and lawlessness. He also urged them to familiarize themselves with the students’ handbook, particularly on rules governing conduct and dress code.
Professor Abdulkarim further disclosed that the university has graduated nine sets of students, many of whom are excelling in various fields across the world. He congratulated the new students and encouraged them to uphold the values of the institution as FUD continues to expand its academic frontiers.
