KANO — A senior All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholder in Kano State, Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to retain Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election as the administration’s most strategic political move ahead of the polls.
Kwankwaso, who is the Director of Finance at the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, said the decision had significantly strengthened the APC’s electoral prospects in Northern Nigeria, arguing that Shettima’s continued place on the ticket would further consolidate support for the party across the region.
In a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists, Kwankwaso said the President’s choice had effectively neutralised political speculation over the vice-presidential slot and sent a strong signal of continuity and stability within the ruling party.
He commended Shettima’s contributions to the Tinubu administration, describing the Vice President as a loyal and dependable partner who has played a pivotal role in promoting unity across the North despite political differences.
“Vice President Kashim Shettima has consistently demonstrated uncommon wisdom and commitment in fostering unity in the North and supporting the President’s agenda. His efforts have strengthened the administration and reassured many across the region,” he said.
Kwankwaso also praised Shettima’s representation of President Tinubu at international engagements, saying his performances on the global stage had projected Nigeria positively and reinforced confidence in the administration.
According to him, retaining Shettima on the 2027 ticket is a major political advantage for the APC, expressing confidence that the decision would boost the party’s chances not only in the presidential election but also in governorship and other elective contests across the North.
He congratulated President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima on the development and expressed optimism that the APC would secure another electoral victory in 2027 with the renewed partnership.
