The Demise of a Gentleman

By Dr Nura Ibrahim

The demise of Dr. Musa Adamu Labaran deeply shocked me. When I walked into the University Clinic where his lifeless body was lying, at first, I thought he was still alive; he looked so fresh and peaceful, just as though he were resting quietly.

The reality of his passing was difficult to accept. Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. Indeed, humanity has lost a rare gem — a gentleman per excellence whose life was characterized by humility, generosity, respect, diligence, and commitment to excellence.

Dr. Musa Adamu Labaran was not just a colleague to me; he was first my student at Bayero University Kano before Allah blessed him to grow into a worthy academic colleague and an accomplished scholar.

Watching him evolve from a dedicated student into a respected academic gave me immense pride and satisfaction. He was industrious, hardworking, and a goal getter who pursued every responsibility with sincerity and determination.

Musa was a man of exceptional character. Despite rising to the position of Deputy Dean at the Faculty of Communication, the office never changed his humility or the manner in which he related with people. He remained respectful, accessible, and loyal. There was never a time I requested him to do something and he refused. His sense of responsibility and willingness to serve were qualities that endeared him to everyone around him.

Beyond the university community, Dr. Musa was known and loved by my family and friends. I trusted him deeply because he proved himself to be dependable, honest, and sincere in all his dealings. His calm disposition, generosity of spirit, and respectful nature made him a beloved personality among colleagues, students, associates, and all who crossed his path.

The demise of Dr. Musa Adamu Labaran is indeed the departure of a gentleman whose footprints of goodness will remain indelible in our hearts. Though we loved him dearly, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala loves him more. We submit completely to the will of Allah and pray that his good deeds continue to speak for him.

Allah Ya jikanka da Rahama.
Allah Ya gafarta maka kurakuranka.
Allah Ya haskaka makwancinka.
Allah Ya sa Aljannatul Firdausi ce makonarka.

Amin Ya Rabbal Alamin.
