IWD 2026: AHIP Warns Women Against Illegal Migration, Human Trafficking

KANO – The Adolescent Health Information Projects (AHIP), on Saturday warned women against the dangers of illegal migration and human trafficking as the world marks International Women’s Day 2026.
In a statement signed by the Executive Director of AHIP, Dr. Mairo V. Bello that was made available to newsmen in commemoration of the global event, urged women to remain cautious of individuals and networks that exploit vulnerable persons through false promises of opportunities abroad.
Dr. Mairo V. Bello noted that while many women seek better economic opportunities, illegal migration often exposes them to exploitation, abuse, and other forms of human rights violations.
Dr. Bello, said the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day highlights the resilience and dedication of women but also serves as a reminder for them to make safe and informed decisions.
She said, “Women are hardworking, dedicated, and resilient, but they must avoid falling prey to illegal migration and human trafficking, which can destroy lives and futures.”
Bello explained that the organisation remains committed to empowering women with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to build sustainable livelihoods within their communities.
“Through our programmes, we equip women with the capacity to become self-reliant and productive members of society, while also helping them take charge of their health and wellbeing,” she added.
She further called on government, civil society organisations, and the private sector to strengthen efforts aimed at protecting women and expanding opportunities that enable them to thrive safely and independently.
