KANO – Ogori Descendants’ Union (ODU), on Wednesday expressed deep concern over rising cases of kidnapping and armed attacks on Ageva–Magongo federal Highway.
In a statement issued by its President, Dr. Gabriel Aiso, the union described the once-busy route as a dependable link for work, trade and family life that has now become a source of fear for residents and commuters, particularly those heading to the South-West.
“Our people are anxious, and the daily reality of travelling this road has become a burden no community should bear,” Aiso said, noting that persistent security threats have eroded public confidence.
He added that recent reports of abductions and violent attacks have not only endangered lives but also disrupted normal economic and social activities in the area. “We cannot stand by while innocent citizens are exposed to danger,” he stated.
According to the ODU president, families, business owners and transport operators now face uncertainty each time they set out on the strategic route, as insecurity continues to cast a shadow over livelihoods.
Calling for urgent intervention, Aiso urged the Kogi State Government and relevant security agencies to act swiftly to restore safety. “The protection of lives and property is a shared responsibility, and this situation demands immediate attention,” he said.
The union advocated the deployment of additional security personnel, sustained patrols, intelligence-driven operations and the establishment of round-the-clock checkpoints along the corridor.
Aiso also stressed the importance of stronger collaboration between security agencies and host communities, emphasizing that local knowledge could play a critical role in detecting threats early and preventing further attacks.
