Ganduje Backs Down, Suspends Parallel Hisbah Plan as Outcry Grows in Kano
By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul
KANO  – Following mounting public pressure and security concerns, former Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has shelved plans to float an independent Hisbah outfit.
Announcing the decision, a statement issued on Tuesday by Baffa Babba Dan Agundi, Director General of the National Productivity Centre and a prominent APC chieftain in Kano, said the plan was halted in the interest of peace and public order.
According to the statement, the proposed parallel Hisbah structure triggered widespread reactions, with many stakeholders raising fears over its implications for security coordination and social harmony in the state.
The intervention of critical institutions, including the Kano State Government and the Department of State Services (DSS), was said to have played a decisive role in calming tensions and guiding the decision to step back from the project.
“The stakeholders resolved to suspend the plan in order to allow the Kano State Government to review the disengagement of some Hisbah personnel and address the issue through dialogue and mutual understanding,” the statement disclosed.
The stakeholders who reaffirmed their allegiance to the legally constituted Kano State Hisbah Board, pledged continued support for recognised security agencies, stressing their collective commitment to maintaining law and order and protecting lives and property in Kano and beyond
